Trimming

Growing up, I was always dealing with long hair that had fairytale ends. Fairytale ends are hair that grow unevenly, at different speeds, so they create the appearance of finer less dense hair with breakage, even if your hair is perfectly healthy. Blunt ends create a thick hemline that is more attractive to the eye for some  and creates that idea of thickness. For example:
Fairytale ends:
Now how do people get fairytale ends? Well it happens naturally. Fairy tale ends are a result of when you don't trim the hair and you just allow the hair to grow as it naturally is. They are tapered and thinner. Though they do not necessarily signify a sign of damage they are merely the opposite of a blunt hemline which has been cut to a shape (straight, U or V line).

So how do you get fairytale ends if you have blunt ends? I would suggest you divide the hair into about 8 or 10 vertical sections around the head, twist each one, and snip the driest ends. In other words just twist a tiny section and hold just the tip so that most of the hairs escape the twist then trim the hairs that poke out of the twist.
Here is a great video example of how to do that for those that need to see the steps visually: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekyvE6mWXnI

Blunt ends:
Blunt ends are attainable but controversial across the board. Some argue that they are unnatural and not fitting for all lengths. In my opinion I absolutely love the way they a straight across cut looks but that is purely my own opinion. If you have fairytale ends or just would like to maintain a blunt hemline here's what you can do.

What do I do? Well frankly I don't trim at all. I haven't trimmed in over a year and a half now. I've been most comfortable with that idea and my hair has grown so much because of that. However now I'm starting to think it's important we all micro trim once a month. This is great for fine/low density hair and can help thicken it in 6 months.

And feel free to check out Chicoro’s “Lead Hair” Theory. Interesting theory she has.
